Behind the Scenes: Our First Styled Shoot
When we started moving from our "dreaming phase" to our "doing phase" here at A Lovely Day, we knew that we would need some gorgeous images to showcase our design work, since we didn't have a portfolio so show clients. Enter = Styled Shoot! The process was a little daunting (okay, very daunting) but we settled on a theme, found our beautiful models and got to work. With the goal to execute a beautiful, Michigan-fall inspired wedding, we couldn't wait to get started.
A huge part of our process was our partnership with The White Dress. Shopping at TWD for your wedding dress is probably the best decision you could make (Emma found her perfect dress there!). Kristy, the owner is a wonderful person who instantly makes you feel at ease and so happy. We went to TWD on a beautiful fall afternoon to look for a gown for our shoot and found Ella, the dress that was the star of the show. Her layers of lace, scalloped bottom and champagne tones were perfect.
Our amazing photographers, Crescent Rose Photography, helped us nail down a gorgeous outdoor space in Novi, Michigan. We knew since day one that we wanted this shoot to be outdoors and the beautiful colors of Michigan's fall foliage complemented our burgundy and navy palette effortlessly! (Sidenote: Our models, Sarah and Zac, we're the true champions of the day. This gorgeous fall afternoon also happened to be a crisp 39º. Sarah + Zac stayed playful and energized the entire shoot.) (Second sidenote: Styled Shoots in mid-October in Michigan are a craps shoot, temperature wise. It was 65º two days later).
When we first dreamt up a bouquet, we pictured a full, handtied stunner with lots of big, fluffy flowers. "I DO" Flowers by Nanette brought that vision to life. The bouquet was luscious, with beautiful dimension and just enough pop to perfectly highlight the elegant, romantic vibe we were striving for.
The best finishing touch on our reception table was the fun vintage goblets from Rusted Rose Vintage Rentals. Using the different glasses (both in shape and texture) helped us to create a show some playfullness while the taper candles and gold chargers kept us on theme.
We knew from the get-go that we wanted to feature a dessert table in the shoot (1. because they're so fun to style and 2. becuase, ya know, desserts). We took advantage of the fall atmosphere and went with a mix of pie and cake push pops complimented by caramel corn treats from our favorite local popcorn shop. The personalized bags made all the difference.
Our first styled shoot was not only a phenomenal experience, but helped create a final product that was romantic and elegant, but still approachable - all things we love here at ALD - we hope you enjoy!
