Chelsea and Trevor met with us earlier this year to chat about their elegant Gatsby-inspired wedding. Getting to know them over these past months has been a true treat - we love how they've infused their love of music and family into all aspects of their big day. Chelsea and Trevor are so perfectly matched, we are so happy that they found each other and can't wait for their wedding this August!
Tell us your four sentence love story.
In Chelsea's words: Despite attending the same high school and growing up in the same hometown, Trevor and I did not meet until we were both students at Michigan State. It was at a gathering hosted by a mutual friend where, upon meeting Trevor, I declared that "we are going to be friends". About six months later we decided that we were too awesome together to not be dating. The past five years have been an adventure filled with late nights at music festivals, cheering for MSU and the Red Wings, cuddling with our cat, Max, and taking in new experiences together.
How'd he pop the question?
In Trevor's words: The proposal was not a complete surprise, we actually designed the ring together which was a huge relief to me since I knew she would love it. But once we had the ring, the rest was up to me. The act of popping the question itself wasn't actually planned; I got the urge to do it when Chelsea suggested we go on a nature walk at a nearby park. We stopped at a little lakeside view area and I popped the question on a whim. Once we continued our walk we were happily escorted by an assortment of wildlife including squirrels, birds, deer, and a friendly turkey. It was a peculiar sort of Disney-esque moment.
What's your go-to date night activity?
In Chelsea's words: For date night, we have no problem keeping it classic with a dinner and a movie. We really enjoy trying new and interesting restaurants- the more quirk, the better! And what's better to follow a delicious meal than the latest Quentin Tarantino film!?
Give us a three song playlist that describes your wedding style.
In Chelsea's words: Let me just start by saying that we spent a ridiculously long time debating what these three songs should be. But in the end we settled on this musical trifecta:
- Rhapsody In Blue by George Gershwin
- Yearnin' by The Black Keys
- Say My Name by Odeza
I think the overall feeling we are going for is a balance of elegance and fun, which can only be described by the quote: "time to drink champagne and dance on the table".
Who will be the first to shed tears? Why?
In Chelsea's words: Apparently we are both prone to the water works. While I've had plenty of practice fighting back tears during ASPCA commercials, Trevor's ducts may not be as fit for the challenge.
Why are you excited to be his Mrs.? Her Mr.?
In Chelsea's words: I am excited because when you are with someone and a three sentence paragraph in a blog post is no where near sufficient to describe your excitement, you know you have got something great! Also I'm not sure that there is anyone else who could put up with me for four whole days at a music festival.
In Trevor's words: (That's a lame response from Chelsea...) I'm excited because she has political ties....just kidding...I'm not into politics. She's got an insane amount of passion and motivation and when you see that in a person and you agree with their direction you've got yourself a hell of life partner.
(Brides, answer the questions for your groom. Grooms, answer for your bride!)
