Emily + Darin's Eclectic, Garden-Inspired, Loft Wedding

We'll never forget the moment we learned Emily was engaged.

We were sitting in our favorite East Lansing coffee shop waiting to start a finalization meeting for Emily's sister, Laura, when Joanne (Emily + Laura's mom) walked in looking a little more excited than usual. We launched in to our normal "Yay, two weeks left!" pep talk, when the words tumbled out of Joanne's mouth, "oh, I've got another one for next year!".

Emily + Darin got swept up in a truly magical whirlwind romance. They had met just months earlier - but when you know it's right, it's right. Emily loved Darin's passion and musical talent; Darin loved Emily's boldness and sense of humor. A real love worth celebrating, right?

For Emily + Darin's design, we took our inspiration from one of the most romantic places: the little gardens you find tucked back in a bustling city. The kind with bistro lights strung overtop, with bottles of wine on little tables, music playing softly in the background and love pouring out everywhere. We worked for months to create an eclectic wedding that honored the things most important to E+D: music, family and their love for one another.

The images below are just a few of our favorites from Breanne Rochelle Photography . Find more about the inspiration behind our design as you scroll through the post.

Emily and Darin's Minted invitation suite set a soft tone with pastel garden florals. We incorporated one of Emily's favorite colors, purple, throughout the design.

Honoring family traditions and Darin's love of music, Breanne captured these sweet details. An heirloom ringbearer's pillow made from Emily's grandmother's wedding dress, and a metal guitar pick, gifted to Darin on the wedding day.

The celebration began with one of the sweetest and emotional ceremonies we had ever witnessed. On a warm June day, surrounded by their loved ones, tucked back in the most beautiful of botanical gardens, with harp music playing in the background, Emily and Darin became husband and wife. (Can you beat a smile like Emily's? We don't think so.)

We found a beautiful loft space in one of our favorite Lansing neighborhoods, Old Town. Complete with hardwood floors, exposed brick, and huge windows that let in the cool summer breeze, we knew this was the spot for Emily and Darin's party. Behind the head table, our friend Amy at Modernly Events strung bistro lights. The head table also featured a beautiful lace linen from Linen Hero

Our design was meant to feel whimsical, unfussy and welcoming. To complete the tabletop, we sourced mismatched china from The Rental Company, used custom table numbers from JLK Design and added lots (and lots) of candlelight to create a soft glow throughout the loft space. The locally sourced honey was a sweet treat (*insert winky emoji*) from the bride's mom, Joanne.

One thing that remained clear throughout our design + planning process was Emily + Darin's love of family. Along one of the long loft walls, we created a floating family gallery wall, highlighting pictures from grandparent's and parent's weddings and some of our favorite snaps from Emily + Darin's engagement session.  We sourced vintage frames to create an eclectic "lived-in" feel that made the gallery wall feel like it was a part of Emily + Darin's home.

The night was rounded out by two surprise treats for guests: local popsicles in surprising flavors (we're still dreaming about the mojito popsicles MI Pops created) and scratch-made Rice Krispy treats. Guests danced the night away under the bistro lights strung from the ceiling, where Emily surprised Darin by playing a song he had written at nine years old - about finding the woman he'd marry.

Swoon.
