We're Loving: November
With the holidays knocking at our door, we're back with a Thanksgiving edition of We're Loving, the monthly series where we share ten things we can't live without right now, plus the songs we're currently playing. This month, we're sharing ten things that are helping us prepare for our most favorite holiday - Thanksgiving - plus the music we’ll be listening to as we pass the mashed potatoes.
Whether you’re headed to your future in-laws or just joining a Friendsgiving, we adore a good hostess gift. Our rule? Bring something that can be enjoyed immediately and in the future! Create a beautiful cheese board on an even more stunning platter, like this marble beauty from Williams Sonoma.
This weather is giving us major #cozy vibes, and what better way to enjoy a chilly fall day then baking up a storm? Next week Kaitlynn will be pulling out her signature Bourbon Pecan Pie (K here - I make a few and then send them to Thanksgiving parties that I can’t attend!) while Emma will be giving this Salted Caramel Apple a try!
While we believe charitable giving is a year-round practice, we love that Thanksgiving serves as a reminder to give to causes important to us! Emma recommends that you check out Ruby’s Rainbow or Save the Manatees (Emma is the parent to Annie the Manatee!), while Kaitlynn will be giving to the American Civil Liberties Union and her favorite NPR station.
A few weeks ago, we made stopped in at the most adorable shop, Essence on Main, in Clarkston and picked up a copy of this Holiday Guest Book. It combines two things that we love: tradition + gratitude. If you’re looking for a beautiful way to capture all that your friends and family are grateful for as you sit down to enjoy Thanksgiving, we suggest picking up a copy too. If you’re local, stop by Essence on Main (our dear friend Emma - yes, another Emma - runs the shop, so tell her we say hi!) or grab a copy online.
Does anyone else find themselves rummaging through recipe boxes or filing cabinets to find your favorite family recipe this time of year? This year we’re dedicating ourselves to recording those special recipes in a beautiful way, which is why we love this linen covered heirloom recipe book. The foil press feels of-the-moment, while the gorgeous cloth cover is timeless in a way that we know our grandchildren will be pulling this recipe book out decades from now!
Whether you’re cooking dinner or just attending, a comfortable yet pulled together outfit is critical. This year we’ll be pairing a classic and comfy tunic sweater (like this one!) with the most wonderful stretchy, tailored pants from Old Navy. Topped off with a cute pair earrings (pearls for K and something dangly for E) and this scarf, then bring on the stuffing and wine!
Top off your holiday look with the perfect holiday mani! We like to keep a few shades from OPI in rotation during the holiday season. For the perfect neutral, we love Pale to the Chief, while Malaga Wine is our go-to for something a little moodier. If you’re a classic red lady, we adore Big Apple Red.
If you’re in charge of setting the table, but stuck with what to do - we’re here to help! We’re keeping things simple and focusing on two things: great food and ambiance! We love these affordable candlesticks paired with a neutral table runner, some clustered votive candles and a few white pumpkins. If you’re hosting dinner for the first time and you’re feeling a bit nervous - don’t worry, we’ve got your back! Our full post on hosting Thanksgiving drops later this week.
Something we all struggle with after the big day? Leftovers. This article from The Everygirl gives us twenty (yes, 2-0!) recipes to try out with your ‘fridge full of leftovers! We’re definitely giving number thirteen a try!
Of course, we can’t let you forget about another important November holiday - Shop Small Saturday! As a small business, we know how critical it is to support our favorite local shops this season, so if you’re looking for a few places to do your Holiday shopping, we suggest you check out the following:
