Urban Elegance: A Styled Shoot
Does anyone else wonder where our fall went? Sitting here this morning as the snow falls outside makes us instantly crave all things cozy and warm, and makes us just a bit nostalgic, which means it’s perfect time to show you one of our favorite shoots from last fall.
When our friend Breanne approached us about pulling together a stunning shoot in Downtown Detroit, we jumped at the chance to put a slightly modern spin on the “typical” fall wedding. We wanted to the design to feel inviting and warm, but not rustic - something clean but classic, fitting for a city that is simultaneously storied and new. Below are some of our favorite images from the day, all shot by the incredibly talented Breanne Rochelle Photography. We’ll share a little behind our design process along the way. The perfect trip down memory lane on this cold November day!
For this shoot, we selected details that would (on the whole) stand the test of time - something that your grandmother would love as much as your grandchildren will; the perfect summation of the city we were in. We selected a gorgeous letterpress suite from our friends at Minted (in our opinion, there’s simply nothing more classic than a letterpress invitation - the heaviness of the paper, the stately printing, and - here - the classic black and white, evokes a feeling of timelessness) to sit alongside a stunning solitaire diamond engagement ring. The Manolo Blahnik shoes in a gorgeous maroon velvet we’re the perfect blend of classic and modern (and a shoe we’d just love to have in our closet!) and helped bring warmth to our otherwise neutral palette.
Katie, the owner of Vine Floral Design, used gorgeous lush blooms to create the florals for the shoot. The bridal bouquet, shown above, was a true stunner with roses, ranunculus, berries, and king protea (a little modern twist on an otherwise classic bouquet)!
The tabletop was designed to feel clean and sophisticated but warm enough to spend hours gathered around drinking wine with your friends by candlelight. The gorgeous architecture and high ceilings of Castle Hall offered the perfect space for our family-style dinner table. We layered a white silk chiffon runner with a heavy textured gray linen from Nuage, and then set the table with gorgeous marble chargers from Event Theory. We brought in classic champagne coupes as a nod to history. One of our favorite details on the table? The calligraphed marble place cards from Joy Creative.
The only word to describe our couple’s attire? Classic. A black tuxedo from Pierre’s Bridal was an easy choice for our groom, and our gown from BHLDN was a simple, streamlined silk number that paired beautifully with a classic cathedral veil. We brought in elegant, neutral lounge pieces from Event Theory, and paired them with warm rose hued velvet pillows from La Tavola. (Also — those downtown views! *heart eyes for days*)
From the conceptualization of the shoot, Breanne knew that she wanted to feature the stunning architecture of Detroit in the couple’s portraits. We loved that the marble from our tablescape carried through in the portraits — we still can’t get over the breathtaking marble wall at the Detroit Institute of Arts!
The shoot was one of our favorites to date, and we absolutely loved getting the chance to work with such a talented team of vendors — make sure you check them out in the credits listed below!
